ABOUT IITA
The International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) is a research-for-development organisation working to improve food and nutrition security, livelihoods and resilience through agricultural innovation. IITA seeks a suitable Nigerian national for this transport and logistics support role.
JOB SUMMARY
The Driver will provide safe and timely transport for project staff, consultants, partners and visitors, while ensuring that the assigned vehicle remains clean, secure, roadworthy and properly documented. This is an on-site, two-year renewable contract based in Oyo State.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Safely transport project staff, consultants, partners and visitors for authorised activities.
- Deliver project materials, equipment and supplies to field locations and other approved destinations.
- Keep the assigned vehicle clean, secure and roadworthy in line with IITA policies and manufacturer recommendations.
- Conduct daily vehicle inspections and promptly report faults, accidents and maintenance needs.
- Maintain accurate logbooks, fuel-consumption records, maintenance records and trip documentation.
- Support timely servicing, repairs, insurance renewals and vehicle licensing with the responsible administrative unit.
- Obey traffic regulations and apply safe-driving practices at all times.
- Support transport and logistics for trainings, workshops, field visits and stakeholder meetings.
- Protect passengers, documents, materials and equipment during transportation.
- Assist with loading and unloading project materials when required.
- Maintain confidentiality, professionalism and sound judgement.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- Minimum Secondary School Certificate.
- Additional training in vehicle maintenance is an advantage.
- Valid driving licence appropriate to the required vehicle class.
- Clean driving record.
- At least three years of professional driving experience, preferably with an NGO, government agency or corporate organisation.
- Excellent driving skills and a strong commitment to road safety.
- Good knowledge of vehicle maintenance, care and basic troubleshooting.
- Good knowledge of roads and routes within the assigned area, including rural locations.
- Strong time management, reliability, integrity and professionalism.
- Good interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and under pressure.
- Willingness and physical ability to travel frequently, including to remote locations.
