JOB SUMMARY
The Driver will provide reliable and safe driving services to UNICEF staff, officials, visitors and other authorised personnel.
The successful candidate will ensure compliance with Nigerian traffic regulations, UNICEF transportation procedures, security protocols and vehicle-management standards.
The Driver must demonstrate professionalism, discretion, integrity, courtesy, adaptability, responsibility and the ability to work effectively with people from different national and cultural backgrounds.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide safe, reliable and timely transportation services to authorised UNICEF personnel and visitors.
- Drive UNICEF vehicles in accordance with local traffic laws, organisational procedures and security regulations.
- Plan appropriate travel routes and use navigation tools to ensure timely arrival at destinations.
- Maintain a safe driving record and apply defensive-driving practices at all times.
- Conduct routine vehicle inspections before and after official trips.
- Monitor the condition of assigned vehicles and report maintenance or repair requirements promptly.
- Ensure that assigned vehicles are kept clean, properly maintained and ready for official use.
- Maintain accurate records of vehicle movements, official trips and other required transportation information.
- Follow UNICEF security protocols, radio communication procedures and emergency-response instructions.
- Support airport pickup, drop-off and protocol arrangements when required.
- Safely transport authorised documents, supplies, equipment and programme materials.
- Assist passengers with loading and unloading official materials when necessary.
- Maintain courtesy, confidentiality and discretion when transporting staff, officials and visitors.
- Support basic administrative assignments during periods when no driving duties are scheduled.
- Participate in self-directed learning and professional-development activities during non-driving periods.
- Perform other transportation and operational duties assigned by the supervisor.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- Completion of secondary education is required.
- Possession of a valid driver’s licence is required.
- Good knowledge of Nigerian driving rules, road-safety regulations and local traffic requirements.
- Minimum of two years of professional driving experience with an international organisation, embassy or United Nations agency.
- Applicants must have a safe professional driving record.
- Experience in airport protocol is an advantage.
- Experience driving in remote field locations is an advantage.
- Experience working in development, humanitarian or fragile settings is desirable.
- Relevant professional experience at the country level is an advantage.
- Good knowledge of Kano and surrounding road networks is desirable.

LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS
- Fluency in English is required.
- Knowledge of Hausa or another language spoken at the duty station is an advantage.
- Knowledge of Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish is also considered an advantage.
