Search for Common Ground is an international non-profit organisation that promotes the peaceful transformation of conflict.

The organisation works with individuals, communities, organisations and governments to move away from destructive approaches to conflict and towards cooperative solutions.

PROJECT BACKGROUND

The project aims to improve peace and security in communities across Benue and Nasarawa states through community capacity building, institutional strengthening and collaboration among relevant stakeholders.

Project activities will include community engagement, advocacy, security assessments, conflict analysis, early-warning systems, peacebuilding dialogues, media engagement and activities designed to promote trust and social cohesion.

JOB DETAILS

Position: Driver

Locations: Makurdi, Benue State and Lafia, Nasarawa State

Duration: 17 months

JOB SUMMARY

The Driver will provide transportation and logistical support to the Search for Common Ground offices in Makurdi and Lafia.

The successful candidate will work closely with the Procurement, Administration and Logistics Officer, Senior PAL Officer, Finance team and Programme team.

The Driver will transport authorised staff, visitors, partners and project materials within Benue and Nasarawa states and to relevant project communities.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Drive Search for Common Ground project vehicles safely and courteously.
  • Transport authorised staff, visiting partners and other approved passengers for project activities.
  • Ensure that assigned vehicles are clean and ready before leaving the office.
  • Ensure that vehicle documents are valid, complete and compliant with minimum security operating standards.
  • Report vehicle faults and maintenance requirements promptly to the responsible administrative officer.
  • Record every trip accurately in the vehicle logbook.
  • Complete monthly vehicle fuel balance and tracking records.
  • Conduct daily vehicle cleaning and routine checks.
  • Review weekly vehicle schedules and prepare for planned missions and transportation needs.
  • Report changes to vehicle schedules promptly.
  • Load and unload goods and ensure that they remain safe and in good condition during transportation.
  • Conduct airport pickups and drop-offs for visiting staff and partners.
  • Monitor and coordinate vehicle repairs when required.
  • Maintain office records relating to travel, inventory, vehicle fuel and generator fuel usage.
  • Support staff travel arrangements and prepare necessary travel materials.
  • Prepare and submit monthly logistics reports to the Senior Procurement, Administration and Logistics Officer.
  • Perform other related duties assigned by the supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum of an Ordinary National Diploma or Higher National Diploma.
  • Valid driver’s licence.
  • Minimum of three years of relevant professional driving experience.
  • Experience performing a related role within an international organisation is required.
  • Previous experience working with an NGO or civil society organisation is an advantage.
  • Evidence of defensive driving training is an advantage.
  • Experience working with little or minimal supervision.
  • Applicant must be a resident of Makurdi or Lafia.
  • Ability to speak a local language widely spoken in the operational area.
  • Ability to speak one or more major languages used in northern Nigeria is an advantage.
  • Good spoken and written English.
  • Basic information technology and reporting skills.
