JOB SUMMARY

The Dental Assistant will support dentists and dental therapists in the delivery of safe, efficient and patient-centred dental services.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Prepare patients and treatment rooms for dental procedures.
  • Ensure patients are comfortable before, during and after treatment.
  • Assist with management of medical and dental emergencies.
  • Take and develop dental radiographs where authorised.
  • Collect and record patients’ medical and dental histories.
  • Record vital signs and treatment information.
  • Provide post-treatment oral-care instructions as directed by the dentist or dental therapist.
  • Support community-health and oral-health promotion activities.
  • Fabricate temporary restorations and impressions where within authorised scope.
  • Assist dentists and dental therapists during patient procedures.
  • Perform aseptic procedures.
  • Sterilise and disinfect instruments.
  • Prepare materials and instruments before procedures.
  • Maintain dental equipment and supply inventory.
  • Conduct follow-up calls with patients.
  • Schedule appointments, answer telephone calls and support billing/office tasks where required.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Diploma in Dental Health Technology or Dental Surgery Technology.
  • Current registration with the appropriate Nigerian dental-health professional regulator.
  • Up-to-date professional registration/licence.
  • Knowledge of dental infection prevention and instrument sterilisation.
  • Computer literacy.
  • Strong communication and customer-service skills.
  • Compassionate, professional and patient-focused approach.
  • Ability to work under pressure.
  • Strong teamwork, initiative, organisation and attention to detail.
