ORGANIZATION BACKGROUND

ROLE PURPOSE
The Data Privacy Manager will join Plan International’s Governance, Legal, Assurance and Risk Group and provide strategic and operational leadership on data-privacy compliance, risk management and good practice.
Working with another Data Privacy Manager and colleagues across Safeguarding, Risk, Communications, Sponsorship, People and Culture, Information Technology and programme teams, the post holder will strengthen privacy-by-design practices throughout the organization.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead data-privacy risk management across Plan International.
- Lead implementation of the organization’s global data-privacy strategy and framework.
- Advise senior leaders and business units on privacy risks, legal duties and emerging requirements.
- Design and deliver global data-protection training.
- Maintain and continuously improve privacy policies, procedures and compliance frameworks.
- Support organizational responses to data incidents and breaches.
- Lead reviews of privacy-impact assessments.
- Provide practical, risk-based guidance to teams managing personal information.
- Maintain records of processing activities.
- Ensure lawful bases for processing are properly documented and monitored.
- Draft, review and negotiate data-processing and data-transfer agreements.
- Support management of data-subject rights requests.
- Promote organizational awareness and culture change so privacy compliance becomes routine practice.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- Significant experience in a data-privacy or data-protection position.
- Strong knowledge of the General Data Protection Regulation or comparable regulatory frameworks.
- Knowledge of wider international data-protection requirements.
- Experience providing strategic advice on privacy matters.
- Proven experience embedding privacy-compliance programmes across large or complex organizations.
- Knowledge of data-collection and protection issues affecting children and young people.
- Experience managing data incidents, investigations and breach responses.
- Experience designing and implementing compliance systems, policies and processes.
- Recognized privacy qualification such as CIPP, CIPM, BCS or equivalent.

- Strategic data-privacy and risk-management expertise.
- Strong analytical, drafting and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent senior-stakeholder management and influencing skills.
- Ability to provide clear and practical advice in fast-moving environments.
- Full professional proficiency in English.
- Ability to work across jurisdictions and multinational organizational structures.
- Training design, policy development and organizational culture-change skills.
