Position Description & Requirements

Malaria Consortium is recruiting Data Collectors to support the End-of-Round evaluation of the SARMAAN II Project in Kaduna State.

SARMAAN II means Safety and Antimicrobial Resistance of Mass Administration of Azithromycin among Children aged 1–59 Months in Nigeria.

The project is evaluating the safety and potential impact of mass administration of azithromycin on antimicrobial resistance, child health and under-five mortality.

Purpose of the Assignment

The assignment will engage research personnel to collect household-level information for an End-of-Round evaluation using the Lot Quality Assurance Sampling methodology.

The evaluation will assess campaign coverage and determine whether community drug distributors followed the approved treatment protocol.

The findings will help identify wards or supervision areas requiring corrective action before subsequent rounds of the intervention.

Key Responsibilities

Attend and successfully complete the mandatory two-day technical training.

Participate in training on the project, survey methodology, research ethics and electronic data collection.

Study and understand the survey questionnaire and household-selection procedures.

Visit selected households within assigned communities.

Administer approved questionnaires to eligible respondents.

Obtain informed consent before conducting each interview.

Conduct household interviews using KoboCollect, SurveyCTO or another approved electronic platform.

Enter responses accurately and completely into the electronic questionnaire.

Upload completed questionnaires to the central server daily.

Review submissions for missing information, inconsistencies and data-entry errors.

Respond promptly to feedback received from supervisors.

Correct and resubmit questionnaires where necessary.

Follow all sampling, interview and data-collection protocols.

Maintain the confidentiality and security of respondents’ information.

Treat respondents and community members with respect.

Provide regular updates to the assigned field supervisor.

Report challenges, refusals, security concerns or accessibility problems immediately.

Submit complete and verified household-interview datasets within the stipulated timeline.

Work in remote areas of Kaduna State when assigned.

Comply with Malaria Consortium’s safeguarding policy and code of conduct.

Deliverables

The Data Collector will be expected to:

Complete the required technical training.

Conduct the assigned number of household interviews.

Submit accurate and complete electronic questionnaires daily.

Correct identified errors within the required timeframe.

Submit all assigned household datasets before the end of the exercise.

Qualifications and Experience

Minimum of a bachelor’s degree or HND in Social Sciences, Public Health, Health Sciences or another related discipline.

At least two years’ experience conducting public-health research, surveys or field data collection.

Previous experience using smartphones or tablets for electronic data collection.

Experience using KoboCollect, SurveyCTO, ODK or a related platform.

Previous experience conducting LQAS surveys is an advantage.

Ability to speak the local language used in the assigned communities.

Familiarity with the culture, traditions and terrain of Kaduna State.

Applicant must be a resident of Kaduna State.

Willingness to work in remote communities within the state.

Strong attention to detail.

Ability to follow instructions and research protocols.

Good communication and interpersonal skills.

Eligibility Restrictions

Applicants must:

Not be employees of the government at any level.

Not be serving as MDA-AZM personnel in any capacity, including national, state, LGA, health-facility worker, community health worker or technical-assistance roles.

Not have been blacklisted during previous project activities.
