Position Description & Requirements

Malaria Consortium is recruiting Data Collectors to support the End-of-Round evaluation of the SARMAAN II Project in Jigawa State.

The SARMAAN II Project is a large-scale health intervention and research programme studying the safety and impact of mass administration of azithromycin among children aged 1–59 months.

The programme includes monitoring drug safety, antimicrobial resistance, child-health indicators and mortality trends.

Purpose of the Assignment

The Data Collectors will carry out household interviews for an End-of-Round evaluation using the Lot Quality Assurance Sampling approach.

The evaluation will measure the coverage of the azithromycin mass-administration campaign and assess compliance with approved treatment protocols.

Information collected will help the project identify poorly performing wards and improve implementation during subsequent campaign rounds.

Key Responsibilities

Attend and complete the mandatory two-day physical training.

Participate in training on survey methodology, data-collection tools and ethical considerations.

Understand the questionnaire, data-collection protocol and household-selection process.

Visit households selected for the evaluation.

Administer questionnaires to eligible respondents.

Explain the purpose of the survey and obtain informed consent.

Conduct interviews in a respectful and culturally appropriate manner.

Use KoboCollect, SurveyCTO or another approved electronic platform to record responses.

Review completed questionnaires before uploading them.

Upload completed survey forms to the central server daily.

Ensure that submitted data is accurate, complete and timely.

Respond quickly to questions or feedback from field supervisors.

Correct inaccurate or incomplete entries identified during data-quality checks.

Maintain the privacy and confidentiality of respondents.

Follow the approved sampling and interview procedures.

Report refusals, absent respondents, security concerns and field challenges.

Work in remote communities within Jigawa State as assigned.

Meet the daily household-interview and submission targets.

Submit complete and verified household datasets within the agreed timeframe.

Follow Malaria Consortium’s safeguarding and code-of-conduct requirements.

Deliverables

Selected Data Collectors will be required to:

Complete all required training.

Conduct assigned household interviews.

Submit completed electronic survey forms daily.

Resolve all inconsistencies identified by supervisors.

Deliver complete and verified datasets before the end of the exercise.

Qualifications and Experience

Bachelor’s degree or HND in Social Sciences, Public Health, Health Sciences or another relevant discipline.

Minimum of two years’ experience in public-health research or field data collection.

Experience using a smartphone or tablet for survey work.

Familiarity with KoboCollect, SurveyCTO, ODK or similar electronic tools.

Previous experience with LQAS surveys is an added advantage.

Ability to speak the relevant local language.

Familiarity with the traditions, culture and terrain of Jigawa State.

Applicant must be a resident of Jigawa State.

Willingness to travel and work in remote communities.

Strong attention to detail.

Good communication and interviewing skills.

Ability to work under supervision and meet strict deadlines.

Eligibility Restrictions

The applicant must:

Not be a government employee at the federal, state or local level.

Not be participating in the MDA-AZM campaign as national, state, LGA, health-facility, community-health or technical-assistance personnel.

Not have been blacklisted during previous project activities.
