JOB SUMMARY

The Country Officer will support IFC’s strategic and operational engagement in Nigeria. Reporting to the Nigeria Country Head, the position will help promote and coordinate investment and advisory activities, develop business, support transactions and strengthen relationships with private-sector clients, government, development partners and World Bank Group colleagues.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist the Nigeria Country Head in overseeing IFC activities and the smooth running of the country office.
  • Support implementation of IFC’s Nigeria strategy and business-plan updates.
  • Contribute to World Bank Group strategy documents, including country strategies, diagnostics and partnership frameworks.
  • Maintain strong knowledge of economic, political and private-sector developments in Nigeria.
  • Coordinate with IFC investment, advisory and upstream teams, the World Bank and MIGA.
  • Support development of the project pipeline and movement of transactions toward implementation.
  • Build and maintain senior relationships with clients, government officials, development partners and World Bank Group colleagues.
  • Support client selection and know-your-customer processes.
  • Contribute local-market intelligence to project structuring and implementation.
  • Support fund mobilisation for advisory and upstream projects.
  • Coordinate visiting missions and management trips.
  • Contribute to board papers, briefs and other management documents.
  • Support portfolio oversight, client relationships and resolution of operational issues.
  • Represent IFC at high-profile engagements, seminars and conferences.
  • Ensure internal and external requests are addressed promptly.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Master’s degree in Finance, Business Administration, Management, Economics or a related field.
  • At least eight years of relevant experience in investment or commercial banking, public-private partnerships, management consulting, or an investment/advisory operational role.
  • Experience or strong interest in Africa is required; Nigeria or fragile and conflict-affected setting experience is advantageous.
  • Ability to assess the viability and risks of business opportunities.
  • Business-development skills and ability to translate opportunities into bankable projects.
  • Strong analytical, finance, financial-modelling, credit and transaction-structuring skills are advantageous.
  • Good understanding of IFC investment and advisory products.
  • Strong record of senior stakeholder engagement across private-sector, government and development institutions.
  • Team-management, supervision, mentoring and training experience.
  • Strong leadership, influencing and matrix-working skills.
  • Excellent client-service, critical-thinking, analytical and presentation skills.
  • Proficiency in Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
  • Excellent written and spoken English.
