JOB SUMMARY

International Medical Corps is engaging a consultant to lead a Semi-Quantitative Evaluation of Access and Coverage (SQUEAC) survey of nutrition programming in Kano, Kaduna and Bauchi States. The assignment will assess coverage of malnutrition-treatment services, identify barriers and boosters to access, strengthen the capacity of International Medical Corps and State Ministry of Health teams, and produce practical recommendations for improving service quality and uptake.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop the SQUEAC survey protocol, sampling approach, tools and implementation plan.
  • Train International Medical Corps staff, State Ministry of Health representatives and data-collection teams.
  • Lead survey planning, pre-testing, field data collection, supervision and quality assurance.
  • Assess service coverage across the targeted LGAs in Kano, Kaduna and Bauchi.
  • Identify factors affecting access to and uptake of IMAM services.
  • Supervise data entry, cleaning and analysis.
  • Analyse data using suitable software such as XMind, BayesSQUEAC, Epi Info, SPSS or ENA.
  • Present preliminary findings during a validation workshop if required.
  • Prepare an inception report, training report and fieldwork report.
  • Submit a draft and final assessment report covering methodology, results, limitations, conclusions and recommendations.
  • Provide clean datasets, analysis outputs and electronic and hard copies of required deliverables.
  • Follow national guidelines, International Medical Corps security procedures and the agreed work plan.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Health professional or nutritionist with an MPH, MSc or another advanced professional degree.
  • Experience in epidemiology and surveys using SQUEAC methodology.
  • At least five years’ experience in community-based studies, including surveys, SQUEAC or other coverage assessments.
  • At least two years’ experience implementing Integrated Management of Acute Malnutrition programmes.
  • Strong analytical, statistical, reporting and data-consolidation skills.
  • Competence with at least one relevant package such as XMind, BayesSQUEAC, Epi Info, SPSS or ENA.
  • Experience in monitoring, evaluation, impact assessment and participatory research.
  • Excellent written and spoken English.
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
  • Experience with pastoral communities and Northern Nigeria is desirable.
  • Consultant must use their own computer equipment and spend most of the assignment in the field.

Final payment is dependent on completion of all agreed deliverables. The selected consultant must follow International Medical Corps’ ethical conduct, safeguarding, accountability and security requirements. International Medical Corps does not charge recruitment fees.
