ABOUT THE ORGANISATION

POSITION DETAILS
- Employment type: Short-term contract

JOB PURPOSE
The Community-Based WASH Supervisor will support timely and effective implementation of community-level WASH activities and help ensure that planned interventions are coordinated and quality-assured. The role works with communities, local structures, stakeholders and the WASH team to identify priority needs and promote safe hygiene and sanitation practices.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Support implementation of WASH activities in targeted communities according to approved plans and schedules.
- Conduct or support rapid field assessments to identify WASH needs, gaps and emerging concerns.
- Mobilise communities and engage leaders, WASH committees and other stakeholders.
- Support hygiene-promotion, sanitation-awareness and other community-based WASH activities.
- Monitor water points, sanitation facilities and other WASH infrastructure and report functionality problems promptly.
- Support distribution and appropriate use of WASH supplies and materials where applicable.
- Establish or strengthen community-based WASH structures and promote sustainable practices.
- Conduct field-monitoring visits and report progress, challenges and required actions.
- Collect accurate beneficiary, activity and monitoring data and maintain proper documentation.
- Prepare timely field reports and updates for the WASH Officer.
- Document and refer community feedback, complaints and concerns through accountability mechanisms.
- Promote participation by women, men, children, persons with disabilities and other vulnerable groups.
- Coordinate with the WASH Officer and project team to meet agreed timelines.
- Immediately report safeguarding, protection, security or other critical concerns.
- Perform other relevant duties assigned by the WASH Officer.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- Minimum OND/HND in Environmental Health, Public Health, Water Resources, Civil or Environmental Engineering, Community Development or a related field.
- At least one year of relevant experience in WASH, hygiene promotion, community mobilisation, humanitarian response or related programming.
- Experience working with communities and community-based structures.
- Understanding of community-based WASH programming, hygiene promotion and sanitation practices.
- Experience with field assessments, activity monitoring, data collection and field reporting.
- Ability to work under tight timelines and respond to changing field priorities.
- Strong communication, facilitation, interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
- Willingness to work extensively in communities and field locations.
- Knowledge of Adamawa State and relevant local languages is an advantage.
- Previous NGO or humanitarian experience is highly desirable.
