Future Resilience and Development Foundation, commonly known as FRAD Foundation, is a Nigerian nonprofit organisation implementing humanitarian, early-recovery and development interventions for vulnerable and conflict-affected populations.
The organisation works across sectors including protection, health, nutrition, WASH, education, livelihoods, accountability and community resilience.
Background
FRAD Foundation, in partnership with its donor, is implementing a Community-Based Protection and Protection Monitoring project to improve the safety, dignity and protection of conflict-affected populations in Bama LGA.
The project seeks to identify, analyse and respond to protection risks while strengthening the capacity of communities to prevent, mitigate and respond to protection concerns.
FRAD Foundation is recruiting a Community-Based Protection/Protection Monitoring Assistant to work closely with communities, traditional leaders, local authorities, community structures and protection teams.

Purpose of the Position
The Community-Based Protection/Protection Monitoring Assistant will support protection-monitoring and community-based protection activities at the LGA and community levels.
The role will focus on collecting accurate protection information, facilitating community participation, strengthening early-warning systems and supporting safe referrals for individuals facing protection risks.
The assistant will coordinate with community structures, government partners, humanitarian actors and technical teams to ensure the timely and effective delivery of project activities.
Key Responsibilities
Community-Based Protection
The assistant will:
Support the establishment and strengthening of community protection committees, focal points and other community-based protection structures.
Facilitate community discussions on protection risks, safety concerns, community coping mechanisms and available solutions.
Promote community awareness of protection, safety, dignity, rights and access to humanitarian services.
Support communities to identify protection risks and develop locally appropriate solutions.
Strengthen community-based early-warning, incident-reporting and referral mechanisms.
Engage community leaders, women’s groups, youth groups, persons with disabilities and other vulnerable groups.
Promote the meaningful participation of affected communities in protection activities.
Ensure that activities are inclusive and sensitive to age, gender, disability and diversity.
Protection Monitoring
The assistant will:
Conduct regular protection-monitoring visits in assigned communities.
Collect qualitative and quantitative information on protection risks, incidents and emerging trends.
Administer approved protection-monitoring tools in line with organisational and Protection Cluster standards.
Identify individuals with specific protection needs and other persons at risk.
Maintain informed consent, confidentiality and data-protection standards during all monitoring activities.
Report serious or urgent protection concerns through the appropriate internal channels.
Support the documentation of displacement, access restrictions, safety concerns and other protection issues.
Contribute to protection analysis and field updates.
Referrals and Follow-Up
The assistant will:
Identify individuals requiring specialised protection support.
Facilitate safe, confidential and timely referrals to available service providers.
Refer cases requiring GBV, child protection, MHPSS, legal, health, shelter or other specialised services.
Follow up on referrals where it is safe, appropriate and permitted.
Maintain accurate referral records in accordance with data-protection protocols.
Ensure that affected individuals understand the available services and referral procedures.
Avoid making promises regarding assistance that has not been confirmed.
Coordination and Stakeholder Engagement
The assistant will:
Coordinate closely with community leaders, volunteers, government representatives and humanitarian stakeholders.
Maintain strong relationships with community structures, cooperatives, youth groups and women’s groups.
Participate in protection meetings, field briefings, trainings and coordination sessions.
Coordinate with relevant Borno State ministries, service providers and project partners.
Support coordination between communities and specialised protection actors.
Communicate community concerns and emerging risks to the Project Officer.
Monitoring, Reporting and Documentation
The assistant will:
Track project activities using FRAD Foundation’s MEAL tools and reporting templates.
Collect accurate field information and activity-participation data.
Prepare and submit weekly and monthly activity reports.
Provide timely field updates to the Project Officer.
Support baseline, midline and endline assessments where required.
Document success stories, challenges, lessons learned and emerging protection risks.
Maintain complete activity, attendance, referral and distribution records.
Protect confidential and personally identifiable information.
Logistics and Operational Support
The assistant will:
Support field logistics, including transportation, venue preparation and distribution planning.
Ensure proper documentation of project activities and distributions.
Support procurement and operational processes in line with FRAD Foundation and donor procedures.
Help ensure that activities are conducted safely and within approved timelines.
Perform other related duties assigned by the supervisor.
Qualifications and Experience
Applicants should possess:
A minimum of a secondary-school certificate, diploma, HND or degree.
A qualification in Social Sciences, Development Studies or another relevant field will be an advantage.
At least one to two years of experience in community work, protection or humanitarian programming.
Previous experience in community-based protection or protection monitoring.
Knowledge of protection principles, referral pathways and humanitarian standards.
Experience in community mobilisation, stakeholder engagement or training facilitation.
Ability to collect, manage and report field information accurately.
Strong knowledge of the local context, language and community dynamics in Bama LGA.
Ability to work respectfully with diverse, vulnerable and conflict-affected populations.
Fluency in English.
Knowledge of Hausa or Kanuri will be an advantage.
Willingness to work in remote and hard-to-reach communities.
Ability to work under challenging field and security conditions.
