ORGANIZATION BACKGROUND

ALX Africa is a nonprofit organization under the ALX Foundation working to expand access to technology skills, career acceleration and sustainable employment for young Africans. It aims to equip two million Africans for sustainable technology careers by 2030.

ROLE PURPOSE

The Community Associate will support the daily operation of ALX Nigeria’s learner and alumni community and help ensure that the Lagos hub remains active, organized and welcoming. Working with the Community Manager, the associate will implement programmes, events, engagement activities and community systems.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Execute community programmes, events and engagement initiatives.
  • Support daily operations of the ALX Lagos hub.
  • Coordinate event, workshop and meetup logistics, including schedules, setup and participant management.
  • Manage community communication channels, respond to inquiries and moderate platforms.
  • Build relationships with learners, alumni and ambassadors.
  • Support ambassador and referral programmes and track participation.
  • Capture testimonials, event highlights, learner stories and other community content.
  • Track attendance, participation, feedback and other engagement indicators.
  • Prepare regular community-activity updates and reports.
  • Coordinate partnership and external-engagement activities.
  • Collaborate with Growth, Content and Recruitment teams.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Three to five years of experience in community management, events, customer experience or a related area.
  • Experience coordinating events, programmes or community initiatives.
  • Education, technology or youth-focused experience is desirable.
  • Experience with ambassador or referral programmes is desirable.
  • Experience capturing photographs, videos or testimonials for digital platforms is desirable.

SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES

  • Strong organization, coordination and attention to detail.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to engage diverse groups and manage multiple activities.
  • Proficiency with Google Slides or PowerPoint, Google Sheets or Excel and Google Docs.
  • Ability to use AI tools and business-intelligence tools such as Looker Studio or Tableau.
  • Familiarity with community platforms, CRM tools or engagement systems is desirable.
  • Proactivity, reliability, resilience and a strong service orientation.
