NEST360 works with African governments to improve hospital-based newborn care.

The programme provides specialised newborn-care equipment, trains clinicians to use the equipment, trains biomedical engineers to maintain it and supports locally managed data systems that strengthen service quality and accountability.

JOB SUMMARY

The Clinical Coordinator will provide strategic and operational leadership for NEST360’s clinical activities in Nigeria.

The Coordinator will oversee clinical programme performance, review facility-level indicators, identify service-delivery barriers and advise on strategies for meeting programme targets.

The successful candidate will serve as the principal clinical resource for the Nigeria programme and work with government health authorities, professional associations, hospitals and programme partners to strengthen newborn healthcare.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Clinical Strategy and Programme Management

  • Provide strategic direction for NEST360 clinical implementation.
  • Coordinate the daily delivery of the programme’s clinical activities.
  • Ensure activities contribute to agreed programme objectives.
  • Support the Country Director and Country Lead with clinical planning.
  • Establish clinical goals and monitor programme performance.
  • Identify challenges affecting the achievement of clinical targets.
  • Recommend practical and evidence-based corrective actions.
  • Support programme sustainability and government ownership.
  • Contribute to annual and quarterly planning processes.
  • Ensure activities align with national newborn-health priorities.

Clinical Data and Quality Improvement

  • Review clinical programme data by health facility.
  • Analyse programme indicators and identify bottlenecks.
  • Lead reviews of clinical indicators in the NEST-IT system.
  • Support teams to troubleshoot data and implementation challenges.
  • Work with the Quality Improvement Lead to develop evidence-based change packages.
  • Support facilities to use data for quality improvement.
  • Identify gaps in clinical practice.
  • Recommend solutions for improving newborn-care services.
  • Monitor the implementation and effectiveness of agreed improvements.
  • Support documentation of quality-improvement results.

Training and Mentorship

  • Assess clinical training and mentorship needs.
  • Coordinate with the Clinical Training Manager.
  • Help define effective training and mentorship approaches.
  • Support the development of training packages.
  • Strengthen the capacity of clinicians providing newborn care.
  • Support facility-based mentorship according to the country mentorship plan.
  • Promote the correct use of newborn-care equipment.
  • Support clinical teams to apply approved protocols.
  • Ensure training activities are integrated within government systems where possible.

Government and Stakeholder Engagement

  • Work with the Ministries of Health and Education.
  • Support the development of pre-service newborn-care curricula.
  • Support the preparation of teaching and training aids.
  • Engage professional associations and other national stakeholders.
  • Participate in the Nigeria Newborn Health Committee.
  • Contribute to the Child Health Technical Working Group.
  • Support the development of newborn-care protocols and policies.
  • Promote compliance with clinical guidelines and safety standards.
  • Represent NEST360 Nigeria externally when authorised.
  • Maintain professional relationships with hospitals and programme partners.

Programme Coordination

  • Coordinate closely with in-country partners.
  • Support health-facility assessments.
  • Monitor health-system-strengthening activities.
  • Track clinical and biomedical-engineering training.
  • Support coordination between clinical and biomedical teams.
  • Contribute to the dissemination of programme and research findings.
  • Maintain systems for tracking presentations, publications and other outputs.
  • Participate in planning, review and programme-management meetings.
  • Perform additional duties assigned by programme leadership.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in Medicine or another relevant medical discipline.
  • Postgraduate qualification in paediatrics, neonatal medicine, public health or another relevant field is an advantage.
  • Extensive professional experience in paediatric or neonatal healthcare.
  • Strong knowledge of maternal and newborn healthcare in Nigeria.
  • Experience working within the Nigerian healthcare system.
  • Experience in a mid-level or senior clinical-management role.
  • Demonstrated experience leading clinical teams.
  • Experience identifying and addressing gaps in clinical practice.
  • Experience with programme and clinical data analysis.
  • Experience with quality-improvement initiatives.
  • Experience working with government health institutions.
  • Ability to travel nationally and occasionally within sub-Saharan Africa.
