Position Description & Requirements
The Norwegian Refugee Council is recruiting an enthusiastic, reliable and skilled Cleaner to join its team in Maiduguri, Borno State. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining cleanliness and hygiene within NRC offices, guesthouses, kitchens, meeting rooms and other assigned facilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Sweep, scrub, mop and polish floors in NRC offices and guesthouses.
- Vacuum carpets and rugs and clean curtains, windows, glass surfaces, furniture, fixtures and fittings.
- Clean offices, guest rooms, kitchens, washrooms, washbasins, mirrors, showers and other facilities.
- Empty waste containers and dispose of waste in a safe and sanitary manner.
- Make beds, change bed linen and ensure guest rooms are clean and properly arranged.
- Wash, iron, fold and store clothing and linen when required.
- Wash dishes and clean the office kitchen according to established hygiene standards.
- Maintain cleaning and cooking equipment in a safe, clean and functional condition.
- Check appliances in guest rooms and report damaged equipment or necessary repairs.
- Protect the privacy, confidentiality and security of NRC guest rooms and facilities.
- Prepare lunch for staff members and visitors according to the approved schedule.
- Maintain the kitchen, manage kitchen supplies and prepare a regular lunch menu for staff.
- Purchase approved food items from the market when instructed.
- Distribute tea and other approved refreshments to staff offices.
- Arrange meeting rooms for official meetings, training sessions and other NRC activities.
- Monitor office supplies such as tea, sugar and kitchen materials and report shortages to the Administration or Human Resources department.
- Perform other reasonable duties assigned by the supervisor.
Qualifications and Competencies
- SSCE, WASSCE or NECO qualification is required.
- ND, NCE or higher qualifications may also be considered.
- A catering or food-preparation certificate will be an advantage.
- Previous experience in cleaning, housekeeping, catering or similar work is desirable.
- Ability to listen carefully and follow instructions.
- Strong attention to detail, reliability and honesty.
- Ability to organise tasks and work according to an established schedule.
- Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
- Ability to maintain a professional and respectful attitude towards staff, visitors and guests.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team and perform duties under pressure.
