UNICEF is recruiting a Child Protection Reintegration and CP Transition International Consultant for an office-based assignment in Maiduguri, Borno State.
The consultancy will run for nine months and will support the transition towards government-led Child Protection Area of Responsibility coordination in North-East Nigeria.
The consultant will strengthen the capacity of relevant government institutions to lead child-protection coordination mechanisms and technical working groups.
The consultant will also provide technical leadership for programmes supporting the social and economic reintegration of children and women exiting armed groups.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the transition of Child Protection Area of Responsibility coordination towards government leadership.
- Strengthen the capacity of the Ministry of Social Welfare and other relevant government institutions to lead child-protection coordination mechanisms.
- Provide training, mentoring and institutional support to government stakeholders.
- Support technical working groups and inter-agency coordination mechanisms.
- Provide technical guidance for the prevention of child recruitment and use by armed groups.
- Support interventions addressing grave violations against children and women.
- Provide technical leadership for the social and economic reintegration of children and women exiting armed groups.
- Support peacebuilding and community-based protection interventions in North-East Nigeria.
- Conduct assessments, gap analyses, desk reviews and consultations with relevant stakeholders.
- Prepare analytical reports and practical recommendations for improving child-protection and reintegration programmes.
- Ensure reintegration approaches are survivor-centred, gender-responsive and inclusive.
- Support programmes that address the specific needs of girls, boys, women and children with disabilities.
- Promote the strengthening of national and community-based child-protection systems.
Qualifications and Experience
- Advanced university degree or master’s degree in Child Protection, Social Work, International Development, Human Rights or a related discipline.
- Minimum of seven to ten years of relevant professional experience in child-protection programming and coordination.
- Demonstrated experience supporting the reintegration of children affected by armed conflict.
- Experience working with Child Protection Areas of Responsibility, technical working groups or similar inter-agency coordination mechanisms.
- Experience strengthening government systems through training, mentoring and institutional support.
- Strong experience conducting assessments, gap analyses, desk reviews and preparing high-quality analytical reports.
- Proven ability to work effectively in complex humanitarian settings.
- Strong understanding of Child Protection in Emergencies, reintegration, alternative care and community-based protection approaches.
- Familiarity with the Core Commitments for Children in Humanitarian Action and Child Protection Minimum Standards.
- Excellent written and spoken English.
