Aid Initiative to Support Vulnerable and Idle People (AISVIP) is a Nigerian humanitarian organisation supporting vulnerable and crisis-affected populations, particularly in Northeast Nigeria.

The organisation works across protection, education, livelihoods, peacebuilding and community-development programming.

JOB SUMMARY

The Child Protection Assistant will support implementation of child-protection activities under the NHF Protection Project in Damagum, Fune LGA, Yobe State.

The position will work with vulnerable children, caregivers, community structures and project staff to support identification, registration, referral, psychosocial support, case-management activities, protection monitoring and safeguarding.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Identify children facing abuse, neglect, exploitation, violence, separation or other protection risks.
  • Support community-level identification of vulnerable children.
  • Register eligible children using approved child-protection tools.
  • Identify Unaccompanied and Separated Children.
  • Escalate high-risk cases to the Protection Officer.
  • Assist with child-protection case-management activities.
  • Support assessment of individual protection needs.
  • Participate in preparation and follow-up of case-action plans.
  • Maintain confidential child-protection case records.
  • Support case follow-up and closure procedures.
  • Identify children requiring specialised health, psychosocial, legal, education or protection services.
  • Refer children through approved referral pathways.
  • Follow up referred cases and document outcomes.
  • Support structured psychosocial-support sessions.
  • Facilitate age-appropriate recreational and child-friendly activities.
  • Support caregivers with information relating to child well-being.
  • Conduct awareness sessions on child rights.
  • Raise awareness of child-protection risks.
  • Educate communities about available services and referral pathways.
  • Engage parents and caregivers.
  • Work with community leaders and protection committees.
  • Support Family Tracing and Reunification activities where required.
  • Monitor protection trends affecting children.
  • Identify emerging community-level protection risks.
  • Report serious concerns immediately.
  • Support protection-monitoring visits.
  • Participate in community consultations.
  • Collect feedback from children and caregivers.
  • Inform beneficiaries about complaints and feedback mechanisms.
  • Promote child-friendly complaint channels.
  • Maintain accurate programme records.
  • Protect confidential and sensitive case information.
  • Use approved case-management and monitoring tools.
  • Contribute to programme reports.
  • Comply with child-safeguarding requirements.
  • Uphold PSEAH standards.
  • Report suspected abuse, exploitation or misconduct through designated channels.
  • Maintain professional boundaries with children and caregivers.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Relevant qualification in Social Work, Psychology, Sociology, Social Sciences, Community Development, Child Protection or related field.
  • Relevant child-protection or humanitarian experience.
  • Case-management experience is an advantage.
  • Experience supporting psychosocial activities is desirable.
  • Community-engagement experience.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Ability to work sensitively with vulnerable children.
  • Strong confidentiality and documentation skills.
