The laboratory works toward high-quality diagnostic services using a Quality Management System aligned with ISO 15189:2022 and recognised ambulatory-care standards.

JOB SUMMARY

The Assistant Manager will provide managerial and technical leadership for laboratory services, supervise laboratory scientists and technicians, strengthen quality systems and support the laboratory’s pathway toward international accreditation.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Conduct business analysis of laboratory operations and opportunities for service expansion.
• Manage External Quality Assurance programmes.
• Develop and implement the laboratory Quality Management System.
• Develop, review and implement SOPs and policies for ISO 15189 accreditation.
• Establish and maintain the Laboratory Information Management System.
• Ensure reliable specimen tracking, results entry and reporting.
• Support acquisition of new laboratory clients and service growth.
• Support introduction of new diagnostic technologies and initiatives.
• Maintain a safe environment for patients, staff and visitors.
• Support HR with recruitment, onboarding and offboarding of laboratory personnel.
• Investigate non-conformities and patient complaints and implement corrective actions.
• Liaise with software teams regarding LIMS and laboratory interfaces.
• Manage procurement of tests, reagents and consumables.
• Maintain vendor information, quotations and inventory.
• Maintain laboratory quality through controls, equipment maintenance and calibration.
• Troubleshoot laboratory equipment.
• Review logs and registers to ensure compliance.
• Prepare laboratory performance and quality reports for management.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

• BSc in Medical Laboratory Science from an accredited university.
• Five to seven years’ supervisory experience in a medical laboratory, clinic or hospital.
• Current professional registration/certification and practising licence.
• Additional experience in molecular diagnostics such as PCR.
• Knowledge of ISO 15189 and laboratory quality systems.
• Strong laboratory leadership and people-management skills.
• Computer literacy and excellent communication skills.
