ORGANIZATION BACKGROUND
The Solina Centre for International Development and Research is an indigenous nonprofit institution advancing health, social and economic reforms through programme implementation, research, capacity development, policy advocacy and stakeholder engagement.
ROLE PURPOSE
The Assistant Legal Officer will support legal research, policy analysis and review of legal frameworks relating to health, education, international development, human rights and social justice. The role also supports organizational compliance, corporate governance and data protection.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
LEGAL AND POLICY RESEARCH
- Research national and international laws, policies and legal good practices.
- Review legal frameworks for compliance with human-rights standards.
- Identify policy gaps and recommend reforms.
- Analyse laws and regulations affecting development and human rights.
- Prepare reports, policy briefs, legal opinions and policy proposals.
- Develop advocacy materials and document human-rights issues.
GOVERNANCE AND LEGAL SUPPORT
- Support statutory-compliance and corporate-governance activities.
- Assist with board documentation, meeting preparation and minutes.
- Draft and review contracts, policies and other legal documents.
- Liaise with government agencies, human-rights organizations and international bodies.
- Support legal training and organizational risk-management activities.
DATA PROTECTION
- Support compliance with the Nigeria Data Protection Act.
- Maintain privacy notices, consent documentation and Records of Processing Activities.
- Assist with privacy, data-protection and legitimate-interest assessments.
- Protect organizational information and report suspected security incidents.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor of Laws and Nigerian Bar qualification: LLB and BL.
- Demonstrated experience preparing reports, research papers or publications.
