Position Description & Requirements

Danish Refugee Council is recruiting an Anticipatory Action Coordinator to lead the implementation of the Scaling Anticipatory Action for Displacement project in Nigeria. The project combines displacement forecasting, community-based early-warning systems, protection monitoring and conflict-sensitive anticipatory planning.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Lead the development and implementation of conflict-sensitive Anticipatory Action Plans.
  • Support trigger design, early-warning analysis and activation of pre-agreed interventions.
  • Coordinate with government agencies, UN organisations, INGOs, local NGOs, peacebuilding organisations and academic institutions.
  • Connect displacement forecasts with protection monitoring and community early-warning systems.
  • Support pooled-fund activation, evidence generation, learning and donor reporting.
  • Represent DRC in relevant national and regional anticipatory-action forums.
  • Contribute to advocacy, proposal development and donor engagement.
  • Work closely with protection, partnership, emergency-response and peacebuilding teams.

Qualifications and experience:

  • Relevant academic background in Humanitarian Affairs, Political Science, Peace and Conflict Studies, Geography, Environmental Studies, Sociology, Anthropology or a related field.
  • At least five years of humanitarian-programming experience in conflict-affected settings.
  • At least two years of direct experience in anticipatory action, early warning, rapid response or disaster-risk management.
  • Strong knowledge of Nigeria or the West African humanitarian context.
  • Experience coordinating government, civil-society and humanitarian stakeholders.
  • Full professional fluency in English.
  • Willingness to travel for up to 30% of working time.

Contract details:

  • Employment period begins in August 2026.
  • Initial contract of one year, renewable.
  • National or expatriate contract, Employment Band G.
  • Nigerian citizens can only be considered under national-contract arrangements.
