Position Description & Requirements

SNV is seeking an Agribusiness and Livelihoods Advisor to provide technical support for agricultural value chain development and inclusive livelihood interventions. Based in Abuja, the role focuses on helping young people and women participate in agriculture, developing market linkages, supporting enterprise development, coordinating training and strengthening partnerships that generate employment and business opportunities.

JOB SUMMARY:

The Agribusiness and Livelihoods Advisor will provide technical guidance and support to the implementation of agricultural development activities. The role focuses on strengthening youth participation in agriculture, supporting women and youth entrepreneurs, building market linkages and improving opportunities for employment and business development within selected crop value chains.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

1.Lead the implementation of sustainability and inclusive livelihood approaches that enable young women and men to become entrepreneurs, employees and job creators in selected agricultural value chains.
2.Coordinate agribusiness development activities at cluster level, focusing on practical facilitation, market linkages, business services and enterprise development.
3.Contribute to annual, quarterly and monthly planning and prepare regular reports on livestock, horticulture and market system activities.
4.Conduct sector assessments and market analyses to identify agribusiness opportunities, including opportunities suited to rural young women.
5.Develop and implement annual activity plans aligned with project objectives, performance targets and agreed deliverables.
6.Monitor implementation progress, identify challenges and recommend adjustments to improve project delivery.
7.Develop approaches that improve availability and market uptake of diverse, nutritious and consumer-responsive products from adapted crops.
8.Facilitate employability skills training for young women and men and strengthen the capacities of project partners, coaches and stakeholders.
9.Work with implementing partners to deliver youth empowerment activities, coaching, enterprise support and market-readiness initiatives.
10.Support research-informed policy development and improve investment readiness for youth groups operating within agricultural value chains.
11.Facilitate public-private partnerships and institutional coordination to expand youth participation in agricultural markets.
12.Maintain records of trained young people and support follow-up for self-employment, coaching and market-linkage opportunities.
13.Prepare timely reports on youth selection, training, coaching progress and deliverables from project partners.

REQUIREMENTS:

1.A master's degree in Agribusiness, Agricultural Economics, Business Administration or a related field.
2.At least seven years of relevant professional experience.
3.At least five years of experience developing and implementing projects, preferably within larger or multi-sector programmes.
4.Strong understanding of value chain development, agribusiness operations and market systems.
5.Experience with youth employment, green jobs and climate-smart approaches in Nigeria.
6.Demonstrated ability to manage project implementation, support partnerships and deliver results with minimal supervision.
7.Strong stakeholder management, negotiation, coaching and networking skills.
8.Ability to contribute to monitoring and evaluation systems and project reporting.
9.Willingness to travel to project locations.
10.Excellent written and spoken communication, reporting and presentation skills.

CONTRACT AND WORK ARRANGEMENT:

1.Duty station: Abuja, Nigeria.
2.Contract type: Full-time national employment contract.
3.Contract duration: Two years.
4.Expected start date: 15 November 2026, depending on the contract award date.
