JOB SUMMARY

The ACSM Officer will lead community-level advocacy, communication and social mobilisation activities under an upcoming agricultural advocacy project.

The position will support Farmer Organisations, farmer champions and community stakeholders and promote stronger engagement between farmers, government institutions, financial-service providers, private-sector actors and other market participants.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Mobilise and strengthen Farmer Organisations and producer groups.
  • Facilitate community meetings and Farmer Organisation forums.
  • Support community participation in programme activities.
  • Help farmers identify and articulate advocacy priorities.
  • Facilitate evidence-based advocacy engagements with public and private-sector actors.
  • Support advocacy campaigns, policy dialogues and accountability initiatives.
  • Track advocacy issues and stakeholder commitments.
  • Implement community communication and awareness activities.
  • Promote farmer-to-farmer learning.
  • Support Farmer Champions, Women Champions and Youth Innovation Ambassadors.
  • Facilitate peer-learning events and demonstration activities.
  • Counter misinformation using credible farmer-led communication.
  • Maintain relationships with extension agents, local authorities, processors, financial institutions and civil-society organisations.
  • Facilitate market linkages for Farmer Organisations.
  • Promote meaningful participation of women and youth.
  • Support women-led advocacy and inclusive leadership.
  • Collect high-quality field data.
  • Document farmer feedback, adoption trends and advocacy outcomes.
  • Prepare activity reports, case studies and success stories.
  • Support surveys, assessments and learning activities.
  • Coordinate logistics for community meetings, trainings and advocacy activities.
  • Maintain accurate records of programme participants and activities.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Extension, Rural Development, Development Studies, Agricultural Economics, Mass Communication, Sociology, Community Development, Public Administration or related discipline.
  • Training in community mobilisation, advocacy, communication or facilitation is an advantage.
  • Minimum five years of relevant experience.
  • Experience implementing agriculture, rural-development or market-systems programmes.
  • Experience working with Farmer Organisations, cooperatives or community organisations.
  • Experience in stakeholder engagement and farmer training.
  • Understanding of agricultural value chains.
  • Experience with donor-funded programmes is an advantage.
  • Strong facilitation, communication and report-writing skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English.
  • Ability to communicate in the dominant local language of the assigned state.
  • Applicant must reside in the selected state or be prepared to relocate immediately.
